That's tough one. No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith was the first Metal vinyl album I ever bought when it first came out and that was before I bought any of Maiden's stuff. But I just seemed to get into Maiden in a much bigger way especially from Beast through to Seventh Son. HUGE Maiden follower back then. Then I lost interest until Dickinson and Smith returned. I'm only now getting back into Motorhead and rediscovering the back catalogue and the most recent run of albums are awesome. I'd have to pick Maiden over Motorhead but I love 'em both:).

I am a greater fan of Maiden than Motorhead because of the same reason of listening to them longer time than to Motorhead.
They have released great albums time after time. Musically, always awesome. Good lyrics, awesome music.

Got tickets to see Maiden this weekend. Saw them a couple of years ago when they played the whole of "matter of life and death" which was too much for me as it turned out. Looks like the set list for this year, if what I've read is accurate, is going to feature songs mainly from their last few albums including Final frontier which I lost interest in after one listen. Looks like it's going to be a lonnnnng night again!
At least if Motorhead play a couple of tracks you don't like they don't take up half the show time.
I absolutely disagree. Maiden does not "rock hard" with studio albums these days. The last "rocking hard" album Iron Maiden has done was 1984's Powerslave. And thats the problem...they are too intelligent and it shows by the ridiculous progression every lame studio album has these last 26 years.

Mötorhead by far, raw and uncomplicated, just like metal is supposed to be.... you know Maiden kinda lacks of power, rawness, heavyness, they are by far more commercial, mainstream, and their drums are kinda softie...

Motorhead absolutely destroys Iron Maiden from 1986 to 2010 by "FAR". Now if you want to talk about back in the day(the early1980's) then I would have to go with Maiden's first 5 studio albums.

[JeffofDoom] Wednesday, February 16, 2011 11:14:05 AM
Maiden. I first heard Motorhead a fair bit earlier than Maiden, but I tend to like bands more for the guitar than the singing and although Killed by Death and Rock'n'Roll have good solos, most Motorhead songs are just Lemmy and a not-too-great riff. Iron Maiden has a great singer in Bruce Dickinson, so even if they didn't make a point of having a great guitar solo in nearly every song, I'd still go for them, but they do, so they win by quite a lot more.

[YngwiePriestRule!!] Monday, January 24, 2011 11:17:11 PM
Maiden all the way!!! Motorhead sucks. Lemmy has a horrible voice, and they only play a couple of chords. Motorhead is basically a punk band that tries to be a metal band. Maiden is a progressive metal band that plays with immense power, but also beauty and musicianship. Maiden rules!!!!! How can we even compare the glorious Maiden to the likes of noisy, rough, homely Motorhead??
[sentinel84] Sunday, January 16, 2011 11:54:07 AM
killers is one of the greatest metal records ever and so is their debut but other than that and a few of the Bruce Dickinson albums they really didn't do anything too special. But motrhead has been great since day 1. Nothing but good stuff. So I'd say motrhead

Lemmy has said on several occasions in interviews that Motorhead are a rock and roll band, the heaviest! Before the first track of each show Lemmy announces "We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll". And he has been saying this for over 30 years now. I agree that sometimes riffs dip into a "heavy metal" sound but really the structures of Motorhead songs are really just heavy hard rock and roll. I also have said that the "champions" of british heavy metal are Judas Priest,Saxon and Motorhead...and Motorhead was added in to replace Iron Maiden as Maiden is not a heavy metal band anymore hahaha!!!

Motorhead - The Thousand Names Of God - 2008 Motorizer
Yeah I can't stand the March Or Die album,I may sink Another Perfect Day LP to the bottom just before March Or Die but its way better. Motorizer is an excellent LP and I'm sure this next album coming out later this year will be a jewel in the Motorhead discography. That 2008 song is very nice. Motorhead has been around for decades now, so it's really cool to hear that they can still deliver. I'll check out the entire LP. I'm sure I can find all the tracks on youtube.
I'm not a big fan of the Ted Nugent song either, but Motörhead's version of it rules! It's like a 100 times better than the original version.
I really dig the March Or Die LP. But I definitely understand why you wouldn't like it, because it was released during Motorhead's "Hollywood years". ROFL! So it's a tad more trendy which is quite alright, because sometimes I like trendy. LOL!

I never liked Ted Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever song to begin with,I hate it actually and my system won't handle it but I can see why you may like the cover track. In my opinion the March Or Die album is the only lame Motorhead album as the other 18 albums crush this one. Here is Buried Alive from the last LP 2008 Motorizr! Tracks like these are why Motorhead are better than Iron Maiden. DOWN THE IRONS.
