Yeah.. Blabbermouth posted ANOTHER thing with Atkins.. This time an interview with STALKER.
Fuck.. I didn't feel like posting it.. And you'll see why if/when you go there.
It's embarrassing at one point, when he says "I've never heard their cover . . . ", and then a minute later says "Their cover was brilliant.."

Fuck You Al!

OH GOOD GOD!!!!  I havent read back thru all of the post and nor will I but I have stated several times on this site that Al Atkins is/has done nothing but try to make a meager living riding on the coat tails of JP.  Who many times has this guy recorded VOC?? 3,4??  He even has an album cover that looks remarkably like the Sin after sin album cover.  Hes a leech that just will not let go at all and if I were Priest, I'd sue the fucker for using their name to make his living!!!

Sorry to beat a dead horse again, or in this case a never-was lead singer.....I figured in all fairness I'd listen to Atkins' singing on the video that is posted on the Blabbermouth site.

Wow, you mean we've been stuck with Rob all these years when we could have had BIG AL singing for us???  All of that musical talent DENIED???  Oh, cruel fate, how could you have done this to us??  Why, God?  WHY??  (and the Maiden fans are probably saying the same thing about Paul Di'Anno).

Atkins' singing is mediocre at best.  He sounds more like he belongs in a Lynyrd Skynyrd type band than anything metal.

Seriously, if we were living in an alternative, short-bus universe and by some horrific cosmic accident Al had remained the lead singer for Judas Priest, I don't think I would have given the band a second thought if I'd heard them.  Something tells me nobody else would have either.

Is anybody out there old enough to remember the Saturday Night Live sketch where Eddie Murphy claims to be the fifth Beatle?  This is what Al's book deal reminds me of.  The more I think about it, the sillier it sounds.

So wel said, I need not say anything.  It is all below.

OK AL, TIME TO LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Al is just trying to grab a little cash from his long ago brush with fame. It's kind of like winning 150 dollars in the lotery and your nieghbor across the street wins 15 million dollars the very next day. A little green with envy you may be. But you would think as the years roll by it would end. Guess not. He must have a shoe permanently placed up his back side from kicking himself all these many years.

I just went onto the Blabbermouth site and damn near laughed my ass off at the comments posted.  I think I would read the Atkins bio (all 3 pages of it) for sheer morbid curiosity if for no other reason.  But you can't help but feel as though Al seems to want to do some coattail-riding the way Gull Records liked to regurgitate up new versions of "Best of Judas Priest" etc. in a pathetic cash grab effort.

Here's something else to think about......if Atkins is such a marvelous singer, how come after he left Priest nobody ever heard of him again (other than a historic footnote in the world of metal history).  And if Priest had gone reggae or something, would he be on the cover of this book sporting dreds and a tie-dye shirt smokin' a fatty, mon???  Instead of the leather jacket?  Makes you wonder.

Now look out.  Pretty soon that guy who sang for Iron Maiden (before Di'Anno and Dickinson) is going to write a bio.  I think there was a one singer or maybe two before them.

"Cog", yes.  Many people are "cogs" in the machine of life.  As to his importance, I would leave that up to history.  Most people that are referred to as "cogs" are not also known as "important".

Here's a "joke"...
Idk, I just came up with it off the top of my head.
But honestly, folks, he doesn't deserve an Autobio...
Anywho.. Here it is.. It's a spoof...

Al: "I'm writing an autobiography..."

"What the hell have you done in life?"

Al: "Well, I was in Judas Priest before they went big.."

" . . . O..k... Uhm, and you think that Single-Event in your life deserves to be told in an Autobiography?"

Al: "OF COURSE! What do you think?"

*Guy stares blankly at Al...*

Al: "Does that mean Yes!?"

*Guy keeps staring..*

"Uhm, Al, I think you're . . "

Al: "Page one, DONE!"

I think he is funny.  Was he in Judas Priest long enough to write an autobiography? Don't think so. Like I said he's just trying to make money.  He said that he didn't think that the band was gonna go anywhere. He probably kicking himself in the ass for leaving.  I am glad he did,,,,Rob is a much better singer.  Rob vocals is what makes Judas Priest.  To Al Atkins,, go jump in a lake!!

PRIEST HAD SHARED A STAGE WITH BLACK SABBATH AS EARLY A 1972 OR POSSIBLY BEFORE...AND BUDGIE AS EARLY AS 1974, AGAIN,OR POSSIBLY BEFORE.

After reading the initial post,  for starters, I'm sure some fans will (at the very least) look into this book...but I have a problem that I found that I might construe as a flaw...from which, if anyone can substantiate, I'll relent:

....among the notes listed,  it's cited that Priest opened up for bands like Budgie and Black Sabbath...     Umm....when was this?      Are there any Priest professors out there that might have insight to when exactly this was PRIOR to Priest's co-headlining stint with the original Sabs at OZZFEST '04?     'Cuz near as I can figure...that was the 1st and only time Priest and Sabbath shared a stage together...thereby making it such a momentous event!

I've even scanned Maddrakkett's  "JP INFO PAGES"  site, and can't readily recall ever stumbling across anything about Priest and Sabbath sharing a trek together between '70-'73.

Umm..  That does not even look like Kens real signature..LOL.. Just a thought.. I would throw out there............

Al Atkins.. Is done and a has been.. He is thiving off the remains of a band he was once in.. To try and survive.. Pathetic if you ask me!

He needs to get over it! ANd get on with life... as the saying goes  SHIT HAPPENS..............

I really don't think he deserves to have an autobiography and poor sales will reflect that. But I'm sure it'll shed a little more light on the hazy early days of Priest which is a great thing for all fans. That said, I won't be buying it. :D

'TIS A SOLID POINT...ONE MUST REMEMBER,HISTORY IS STILL MADE BY A SERIES OF EVENTS...REGARDLESS EVEN IF YOU DON'T APPROVE..."NOSTRADAMUS" WOULD NOT EXIST,IF NOT FOR THE TIMETABLE IN WHICH PRIEST HAD EVOLVED. HE WAS AN IMPORTANT COG IN THE MACHINE THAT IS JUDAS PRIEST TODAY.

For fucks sake. That guy can't get over the fact that he quit Judas Priest, and the fact that they have commercially been acclaimed. And this cameout in the wake of the release of Nostradamus. I can't help feeling he's a little butthurt. Why can't he for a change just be happy for Judas Priest??? Fuck you Al Atkins.

Christ !  If that's all it takes to write a friggin' autobiography, we could all write one.  Hell, anyone that's been in even a halfway decent band can spin some stories.  Give me a break.  If he wants money, he could stand outside the supermarket and pretend to be collecting for charity like all the other good con men.

Original JUDAS PRIEST singer Al Atkins has completed work on his autobiography, titled "Dawn of the Metal Gods: My Life in Judas Priest and Heavy Metal". The book, which was was written with Neil Daniels — a freelance rock writer and heavy metal fan who befriended Atkins during the writing of Neil's book "The Story of Judas Priest: Defenders of the Faith" (Omnibus Press) — will tentatively be released before Christmas via Iron Pages.

Commented Atkins: "The book is gonna look fantastic! There'll be some really cool photos and shots of vintage PRIEST memorabilia that I'm confident is very rare, like a picture of the first-ever JUDAS PRIEST recording.

"The book will feature contributions from:

* Bruno Stapenhill (JUDAS PRIEST Mark I)
* Ernie Chataway (JUDAS PRIEST Mark I)
* John Ellis (JUDAS PRIEST Mark II)
* Trevor Lunn (ex-JUDAS PRIEST roadie)
* David Howells (Gull Records)
* Dave Corke (ex-JUDAS PRIEST manager 1970-'76)
* Norman Hood (IMA Agency)

"And maybe a surprise or two!!"

Atkins added: "Obviously it's not all about PRIEST: I'll tell you about my old band LION, my travels around Europe and my solo career right up to my latest band THE HOLY RAGE. And that's not all because some of my good friends and people I admire have also contributed like Dennis Stratton, Paul Di'Anno, Jess Cox, Brian Tatler, Johnny Lokke, Graham Bonnet, Taz Taylor and Simon Lees."

In a previous posting on his web site, Atkins revealed his reasons for writing an autobiography: "For some time now, I have wanted to write my own book about my amazing life in heavy metal. Finally that dream has come true; after befriending Neil Daniels, we have come up with some great ideas together. Of course there will be some great stories from my few years in PRIEST but also, loads of info on the Sixties music scene in Birmingham and the West Midlands. I knew bands like SLADE, TRAPEZE and THE BAND OF JOY. I saw CREAM live, befriended BUDGIE and supported ROD STEWART. Also, I was in a band called LION in the late '70s and we supported the SEX PISTOLS and THE STRANGLERS. I also have a solo career and have released five albums so far; my new CD is called 'Demon Deceiver'. It should make for an exciting read. There'll also be loads of photos from the early years of JUDAS PRIEST and pictures of ticket stubs, posters, memorabilia, etc."

The book's description reads as follows: "Al Atkins is the former lead singer and founder of the multi-million selling British metal band JUDAS PRIEST. But where and when did it all begin?

"During the Sixties, when the highly lauded Brum Beat era produced bands such as THE MOVE and THE BAND OF JOY, Atkins played in various local outfits some of which laid the blue print for the heavier progressive sounds of early JUDAS PRIEST. And so it was in 1969 that a disillusioned Atkins decided to have a go at forming yet another band with his childhood friend Bruno Stapenhill. The band in question was JUDAS PRIEST.

"JUDAS PRIEST quickly built up a reputation in the Midlands as a powerful live act and even secured a record deal with Immediate, which was owned by ex-ROLLING STONES manager Andrew Loog Oldham. Unfortunately Immediate folded and so did PRIEST. Undeterred, Atkins formed yet another lineup of PRIEST in 1970 with guitarist K.K. Downing and bassist Ian Hill. At Atkins' behest Downing and Hill ditched the name FREIGHT and resurrected JUDAS PRIEST. Through the early Seventies, PRIEST supported many bands, including SLADE, STATUS QUO and BLACK SABBATH. Lineup changes continued until May 1973 when Atkins finally decided to call it a day.

"Atkins is the co-writer of several PRIEST songs which are included on the band’s first two albums 'Rocka Rolla' and 'Sad Wings of Destiny', both of which eventually went gold. Atkins co-penned the heavy metal classic 'Victim of Changes' which was a combination of Rob Halford's song 'Red Light Lady' and Atkins' own 'Whiskey Woman'. He also co-wrote 'Winter', 'Never Satisfied', 'Dreamer Deceiver' and 'Caviar and Meths'.

"In 1989 Atkins released his debut solo album 'Judgement Day' to great acclaim. But it was 'Heavy Thoughts' and 'Victim of Changes' (the latter being his collaborative album with ex-JUDAS PRIEST drummer Dave Holland) that brought him strong sales and critical acclaim around the world. Recently Atkins has formed THE HOLY RAGE and has shared the bill with ex-RAINBOW singer Graham Bonnet in California.

"In 'Dawn of the Metal Gods', Atkins shares his entertaining life story with the reader. This is not just a book for JUDAS PRIEST fans but a bible for all those wishing to form a band in the tumultuous world of heavy metal."
