I know it Ron! I would love to see them tour alot less even if it means I never get to see them live again over here....I would much rather have a new LP every year!
I lay money on that the next LP will be totally awsome old school heavy metal because if they don't .....there will be alot less fans at the shows. You laid it out perfectly from DOTF to now...Not even the new Live CD is going to come close to satisfying my need for some new Priest Metal!!!!!!

But isn't it a testament to Priest that they have created such a variety of music that there's something for everyone??
You know me J.D., I feel just about the same as you do and your opinion of that era and Turbo (and Ram It Down isn't rated much higher IMO).
Being that as it is, at least Turbo brings Priest music to an otherwise uninterested fan, who then gets the pleasure of hearing all the other goodies that Priest have to offer

I just can't refrain from bashing the Turbo album. I think also why is that in 1986 they were coming off an album in 1984 title 'Defenders Of The Faith'.......meaning defending the faith of heavy metal's spirit...
.....and then they did a 180 turn and dropped everything they were defending and joined the other team...meaning..they sold out to the mid 1980's hair band era style of commercialism...............................
And the songs they wrote for Turbo to me were not and still are not "quality Judas Priest songs". So my opinion is just that..."its my opinion" and I'm not saying that everybody has to agree with me.

someone hated "Screaming For Vengeance".......I've seen a post where someone couldn't stand "British Steel"....so there are many different opinions in here

J.D., I've read this post and cannot agree. I like "Turbo" too much, it's one of the most favourite albums to me. It sounds perfect and has wild energy, always blows my mind away. Yes, there is some glam-rock sources, but it's not a problem for JP - every album they do something special, and do not plagiat from themselves.
Turbo lover - great song with great atmosphere created by good-choosen sound effects, perfect refrain that sends shivers down my spine! Perfect work!
Private property - I like this song executing live! Good choice to head-bang "Hands up! Ooo-ooo!" When they played it in Moscow 2005, I think it was the best their perfomance on that show.
Rock you all around the world - great fast song!
Out in the cold - a masterpiece! Unbelievable song! Great mix of hopelessness, male firmness, unrequited love and coldness that reproduces in every sound, in every note. One of the best priest's songs ever.
WIld nights - good riffs, good lyrics ;) perfect refrain to sing together! Real rock-hymn of 80's!
And all other songs are also very-very good! Don't understand why you think so, but you should write "IMO" in your post, no doubt.
About "Nostradamus":
Every time I enjoy this album. I think JP showed us how old-school heavy metal music should develops. They didn't make anything new with song's compositions, it were the same classic riffs, but they did new approach to songs: new arrangements, new ideas, new sounding, new sences, new instruments, new vision... a lot of "new" in old genre. They've opened our eyes to see "Heavy metal has not died and there are too many horizons in our favourite genre". That's why I like this album. My respect to JP for it. Hope in next album they will do big work and we'll see something special again

someone hated "Screaming For Vengeance".......I've seen a post where someone couldn't stand "British Steel"....so there are many different opinions in here

Judas Priest are the best band in the world...that is something hopefully that we can all agree on!

I can understand why people dont like it as much as other Priest albums, but Nostradamus (IMO) is a truly epic album, when you listen to it all the way through without skipping songs its even better. The way every song is a perfect chain to the next song is very amazing, and the way some songs build up much anticipation for the next like Dawn of Creation does for Prohecy and Sands of Time leads Into Pestilence and Plague (best song on album IMO) is just amazing. i love this album no matter what people say. |

A year later and I'm still listening to it. It's Priest. Granted it's not a straight ahead Metal album, fair enough however I like the opratic parts and orchestration. It gives the Metal some musicality. The blues driven grinding quality of their earlier albums isn't there in every song however their muscisianship is well advanced from the early works. Whatever, the concept album for me as an older fan works. Judas Priest could do a Christmas album and I'd buy the collecters edition too... |

I could'nt "agree" more with you here Electric_Eye. I give the band an "A+" for effort and originality for Nostradamus. But for me as well as you,the song writting is the key to why I do not care for it.
In my opinion...Angel Of Retribution is Judas Priest's 5th best album out of 16 studio albums they have now. And 3 tracks from it I would say are in the top 10 Judas Priest songs of all time with
"Judas Rising.........Demonizer......and Hellrider". Nostradamus has nowhere near the song quality that these tracks have to me. It just proves that they are not a band that should be taking on
these kinds of projects. Judas Priest does best while creating "heavy metal"........not "opera". It had been 15 years since a Rob Halford-lead Judas Priest had put out a studio album and to give you an idea of how much I liked it --at the end of 2005 most of the tracks from AOR had the highest play count on my iPod that year.
As for Nostradamus, the pace of the album for me just doesn't cut it. I like to listen to music while working out and just found myself skipping over too many tracks that i just didn't like. Again, A for effort, but low marks for end result. I cringed when I heard the tour would include a complete rendition of the album live --fortunately for me that tour didn't stop in Atlanta because I would not have gone and that would have just not felt right --sitting at home while the Priest was in town.
Now here in 2009 Priest will be here in part touring to celebrate the 30th anniversary of British Steel --and playing that great album in it's entirety. I cannot tell you how stoked I am to hear 'Steeler' and 'Rage' live. I love this band --have since I first heard them --and I've enjoyed just about everything they have put out (minus the Ripper years) during their long and stellar career of waving the heavy metal banner. So it pains me to be critical of something the band put a lot of effort and energy in to produce --but critical of Nostradamus I am. I had an uneasy feeling when I first heard about a concept album of the life and times of Nostradamus --and unfortunately, IMHO anyway, my fears were realized.
Looking forward to seeing the Priest in 2009 @ Verizon Wireless Encore Park in Alpharetta GA! |

Nostradamus is etched in stone forever more. There are a couple of tracks on this album that are ok in my opinion, not to me but to others it may be thier best album.
But now I feel it should be time for the band to move forwards. As Hellrider mentioned a while back...they took approx. 3 years creating Nostradamus(2 and a half)and another year touring it.
With this British Steel tour they are doing right now,......after this tour it would be interesting to see what the band does next......I would like to see them take some time off for a change
and rekindle some next studio album thoughts. The next Judas Priest LP is going to be very critical for the band's career. |

I can. I didn't mind Turbo (shouldn't have played it live two tours ago, IMO), LOVED Locked in and had a new respect for Out in the Cold from the video Priest Live.

Well it strikes me as very strange that they stated that they were going to perform the whole of Nostradamus live and they've decided instead to do an album that is not that far off 30 years old instead.
In London they played 2 songs from Nostradamus. They hardly plugged the new album did they?!
So if they want to play it so very very very much, why not do it on the back of the release?
Oh well maybe they will in 29 years. |

Where have you read that Priest are never going to perform Nostradamus live?
Ironically, the band keeps saying they are GOING to play it sometime later in the year or at the latest next year. They all want to. I guess Iam suprised in all the albums they have done.. There was so much Hype about this one,, and then the Grammy Nom.. ect... why this album???? In the past years their other albums, did so much better, and had so much more reconigition. ect... I was suprised about the Grammy Nom, to begin with...
A few songs I really like off Nostradamus, but overall it is not my Fav Priest Album..

Overall, I really like the album. Lately I haven't listened to it as much, but that is normal. When it was first released I don't think I took it out of the cd player for months. While I do think it is inferior to AOR, there are still some strong tracks on there: "Prophecy", "Death", "Persecution", "Exiled", "Nostradamus", and "Future of Mankind". |

I LOVED THE ALBUM WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND I LOVE IT MORE TODAY. GRANTED IT IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL HEAVY METAL ALBUM, BUT IT HAS SOME GREAT METAL SONGS ON IT. AND PRIEST IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL FAST, FASTER AND FASTER HEAVY METAL BAND. THEY ARE THE MOST PASSION AND INTENSITY. THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DIVERSE IN THEIR MUSIC AND EXPLORED VARIOUS OPTIONS IN THEIR MUSIC. THAT IS WHY I THINK THEY ARE THE BEST BAND OUT THERE. ROCKA ROLLA WAS NOT A VERY HEAVY METAL ALBUM. (IT IS A GREAT ALBUM) BUT THEY GREW FROM THAT AND THEY KEPT GROWING. AND CHANGING. NOSTRADAMUS IS A MUSICAL MASTERPIECE. |

I like to call Nostradamus a dynamic piece of symphonic metal. But at the same time extremely overblown haha. But I do love the record anyway. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by J.D. Other than that, one of my favourite Priest songs has also come on this record...Visions. I'm sure their next album will be something bone crunching. Nostradamus isn't bad...they gave us something very epic which when listened to from beginning to end...is quite amazing. Now let us see them do a mini Nostradamus tour after the US tour and then back to a true Priest record. |

When the song was available here, I didn't want to listen to it, mainly because I wanted to hear the album in its entirety and not just hear a piece of it over and over again before the album was finally in my hands. I still like it...it reminds me of the Painkiller song, in a way. |

Yes Vaillant 3.0 ....Judas Priest "scares me" anymore. At thier age right now,and the Nostradamus album....I think that the band will either "retire" after this tour,or simply put out another album as non-metal-as Nostradamus.
If I am wrong,I will log on here and admit it in front of everybody. But I don't think I'm going to be wrong here,I think with Rob's slow stage movement and with Deep Freeze's posts about how he just does'nt seem to be "into it" anymore...makes me think that the band should just retire after this British Steel set list-tour.
In my opinion,Nostradamus should of been the time when the band should of pulled everything together and tried to create the best Judas Priest album they could possibly create, like they did with Angel Of Retribution which may not be Priest's best album, but they sure as hell came close...to me its the band's 5th best album. But I just don't see them "returning to thier roots". Thats just my opinion. Call me a pessimist, and I "am" but I "may" be right here folks.
