Interesting. The vast majority of rock music on my iPod is from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Plus the material from the 90's and 00's tend to be from the bands who have been around for man years. Maiden, Kiss, Priest, AC/DC etc. I like Airbourne though. When the greats finally hang up their guitars music, who knows?

RUNNING WILD - MASQUERADE -1995 Totally excellent pure heavy metal.

Check out this last track on Night Of The Stormrider "Travel In Stygian"...listen when the vocalist starts in,it reminds me of Halford influence big time, this album is like Judas Priest, old Iron Maiden and old Metallica with Cliff Burton's sound back then ect...this whole album is excellent,a true masterpiece of heavy metal.

Iced Earth - Night Of The Stormrider,Running Wild - Black Hand Inn,Running Wild - Masquerade....3 albums that belong in a heavy metal fan's collection in my opinion.

I'll let ya know Ron lol! The only 2 band's albums that I would recommend are not new but I would definately recommend Running Wild's Black Hand Inn album,or the Masquerade album, those 2 are total british heavy metal with a vocalist that doesn't irritate,or try to overkill it ect...

Check out those 2 albums, they are a pleasure to listen to minus a song or 2 but as I said there are more than enough songs on each album to make up an album's worth of british styled heavy metal. The other album would be Iced Earth's Night Of the Stormrider, that album is a classic of british styled heavy metal.

I'd have to agree with you there J.D..  It would be cool if there were a couple of them out there to bide the time between shows from out favorites, a couple I wouldn't shelling hard earned cash for.  Let me know if you run across any!!  (seriously)

Yeah I've heard them before,I don't have anything by them but yeah they are old school metal-punk from the 80's your correct. They are not bad for oldschool. And yeah,metal/heavy metal doesn't need to be as popular as Iron Maiden is when the traditional metal giants retire, but it would be cool if there were a band or 2 that emerged onto the scene that had more influences of Priest, old Maiden and Saxon.I wouldn't want a band to totally copy them, but I really think that more bands should try and incorporate traditional british heavy metal into thier style and image but somehow still write quality good songs, wich is easier said than done I know, but it would be nice,

High Spirits is recent band I particulary like,  the voice isn't  "wow!" but is pretty decent for a demo, anyway I think is enough classic metal innfluenced to put a couple of song here:

About the topic: I actually agree about golden age of Heavy Metal being completely gone, the passion for classic Heavy Metal(Saxon, Diamond Head, Judas Priest, etc) will be  dramatically reduced, most kids today are or into death/gore/black  metal or trendy mallcore and crapcore, that can't be changed, kids always want the louder and noisier music, even if is crap music(mallcore), and old classic metal bands dissapearing is not helping, and as any kind of music, Is not gonna actually disappear, just reduced the amount of listeners, I hardly believe that a  new band will appear and gonna be as great as the traditional metal giants, so we must accept that Heavy Metal will become a more dark and underground movement that it is right now, I can live  with that, for  me this was never about belonging to a larger group or a trend, it just will be more difficult to find metalheads, true metalheads, in the future.

PD: hey J.D., that's one great speed metal album I tell ya, Exciter has always been an amazing speed metal trio, and talking about metal trios, have you ever listened Warfare??, great britsh punkish metal vibe:

Iced Earth - Stormrider -1992

Iced Earth's first 2 albums "Iced Earth"(1990) and Night Of The Stormrider(1992)are by FAR the 2 best Iced Earth albums of all,the other albums are in a compleately different style, but for some reason the first 2 albums I really like.

Some of those other bands I mentioned are not pure heavy metal jimmy, some are in a heavy metal/trash style like Hallow's Eve,Razor,Hirax and Deathrow but they still have some heavy metal influences, just mixed with thrash like old Metallica.

If you want any of these cds after you listen to them, let me know I'll burn you them so you don't have to hassle with it ect....

Running Wild - Black Hand Inn -1994 This reminds me of hints of old Iron Maiden with Running Wild's signature style, but very british heavy metal styled, this album is good except for like 2 songs, but there are 8 tracks that make up an albums worth of worthy british styled heavy metal and for me a tolerable vocalist.

I'm glad I bought this album,a breath of fresh air and a worthy heavy metal album when I am not reaching for Judas Priest,Saxon,Black Sabbath,Motorhead,Dio,(old)Iron Maiden,Exciter,Hallow's Eve,Agent Steel(first album),Razor(Executioner's Song album only)Hirax(A New Age Of Terror LP)Deathrow(Raging Steel album)Iced Earth (first 2 albums only)King Diamond(Fatal Portrait,The Eye,Voodoo & The Puppet Master albums only!)cds to play.

Well the sound is heavy metal  but I can't really get into the vocalist, but that doesn't mean that my opinion should be a deciding factor,to others they may be excellent. First listen,I just can't get into it.  The only heavy metal band that I've recently got into was Running Wild but only half of thier discography, the other half is not to my likings. I think that Running Wild's vocalist R.Kasperik sounds good because his vocals are low ranged and sounds a bit like Paul Di Anno from the Killers album, that kind of style. But again,my opinion means nothing as its just "an opinion" nothing more.

Absolutely not. There are no current bands that I've seen/heard that are grabbing my attention and have the british heavy metal sound with good song writting and good vocals, there is just not. There are many bands with good music but when the vocals start,it ruins it for me,just like Craig W. doesn't mind Saxon's music but for him its ruined when Biff starts to sing.

To me Biff is heavy metal's second best vocalist but to others Biff is irritating,it is what it is. But I just haven't heard anything that "kicks ass"....sure there are "ok" stuff but nothing that is exciting. I think bands should first focus on a good vocalist, then the song writting and I think they should up-tune thier guitars like British Steel,Blizzard Of Oz,ect....instead of down tuning them to go with the trend.

I have to admit that I'm about as stuck as stuck can be on traditional Heavy Metal.  To me, It;s the greatest form of music to ever grace my ears.  It's what I grew up with, it's what most of my memories are linked to, it's in my blood!!  That's NOT to say there aren't good bands today to a certain degree, but they in no way, shape or form come close to the music of days gone by.  Today's music has no life, no spirit, no mesmerizing drawing power to me.  I may be out of the loop, so to speak, of todays music, but nothing compares to the history I have with traditional Heavy Metal.  No band sticks together long enough to endear themselves to me.

I don't think Heavy Metal will ever die, but once the bands of my youth are gone, Heavy Metal will never be the same.  I doubt I'll be around much longer than they will be anyway, so it won't really matter to me at that point.  lol

As far as progress goes, take it, it's all yours.  Call me closed minded all you want, cool, I can live with that.  My heart wants what it wants!!

[jimmyjames] Wednesday, April 28, 2010 3:29:48 PM
I meant like Priest, Maiden, Saxon etc. Have you heard of any newer bands that are good playing that kind of metal?

[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, April 28, 2010 3:24:56 PM
No. I do not like any "new" bands in the black metal underground or the death metal underground. The scenes are ruined and have been for years now, something I never thought would happen 15 years ago but it has arrived.

Especially the last 5 or 6 years,it has become a circus of embarressment. The last new bands to come out that I like was Cult Of Daath(2000), Graven(2000) Sargeist(2000) all black metal bands. But thats about it.

No black/death metal bands that I like play in a traditional metal sense, they play in the black/death traditional sense, not heavy metal. A few bands that I like called it quits because of how lame the so called "scene" is like A.J.Harris Judas Iscariot quit in 2002 and the legendary Mutiilation from France that started in 1992 just recently quit in 2008. Its a sad joke

This scene used to be hidden and elite I remember back in 1994 around that time, there was not as many people that got into this music back then,it made up for a great scene where things were fresh and exciting, but nowadays the kiddies in thier bedrooms through the help of the internet and endless trend record labels swampped the scene and made this into a mear "joke".

I really am sick by this and is one of many reasons why I joined this forum on January 1st 2005,it was more satisfying to me to talk to fans of heavy metal vs.black metal the way it was heading.
